Anyone starting a new job should always have some advice with them. However, I actually did that for my first job after graduating from college. Having just relocated 2,000 miles away to a region where I knew no one, I felt lost as soon as I walked into the office. I didn’t want to come out as naive, so I hadn’t asked many questions. I didn’t know what to wear or even when I could take a lunch break when I arrived unprepared.
To be clear, a business’s HR department needs to have a strong onboarding procedure in place, and managers need to make an effort to make new workers feel at home. What if, however, your business does not yet have an HR division? What if your manager isn’t being completely honest?
